Tea growers in Sri Lanka talk about elevation the way winemakers talk about soil. It is the single biggest influence on flavour.

Cool air, slow growth

At high elevations the leaf grows slowly, concentrating aromatic compounds. The result is a lighter, more fragrant cup.

Warm lowlands, bold flavour

Lower down, faster growth creates bigger, darker leaves and a fuller, sweeter, maltier tea.

  • High grown: bright, floral, brisk
  • Mid grown: rich, full, coppery
  • Low grown: malty, sweet, bold
