Our story

About Us

Three estates. One highland. Ceylon tea curated from the heart of the Kandyan hills.

The conversation between estates

Udarata Tea (Pvt) Ltd was founded on a simple premise: the finest character of Ceylon tea isn’t found in one estate — it’s found in the conversation between them.

Sourced from three historic tea factories nestled across the Kandyan highlands — Embilmegama, Pilimathalawa and Arabegama — Udarata Tea blends the mineral brightness of high-altitude leaf with the deep, malty body of mid-elevation terrain.

Each factory contributes its own signature to the cup: Embilmegama’s brisk clarity, Pilimathalawa’s classic Kandyan strength and Arabegama’s rounded sweetness. We don’t chase a single flavour profile — we curate the full range of what the Udarata (upcountry) truly tastes like.

Our mission

To preserve and elevate the distinct character of Kandyan upcountry tea by working directly with smallholder factories across the region — Embilmegama, Pilimathalawa and Arabegama — ensuring fair sourcing, consistent quality, and a cup that reflects the true diversity of Sri Lanka’s highland terroir, for both local and export markets.

What we stand for

  • Respect for the leaf

We let each region’s character shine. No artificial flavours in our pure teas — ever.

  • Fair to growers

We work directly with smallholder factories across the region, with fair sourcing and consistent quality.

  • Fresh, always

Small batches, packed close to harvest and sealed to lock in the aroma.
